Date format in Smart Receipts

Pick the date format that reads naturally to you or your accountant. It is used across expenses, reports, and exports, so a CSV opens with dates already in the order your spreadsheet expects.

How it works

Applies everywhere

The format you choose is used for the expense list, expense detail, reports, and the date column in PDF and CSV exports.

Day, month, or year first

Options include MM/dd/yyyy, dd/MM/yyyy, dd-MM-yyyy, dd.MM.yyyy, yyyy-MM-dd, yyyy/MM/dd, a Japanese-style year month day format, and a written month such as 21 September 2026.

Scanning is unaffected

The scanner reads whatever date is printed on the receipt. The setting only controls how dates are displayed and exported.

Spreadsheet friendly

Choose yyyy-MM-dd if you import CSV exports into accounting software, since it sorts and parses without ambiguity.

Where it applies

  • Dates in the expense list and on each expense.
  • Period labels in reports.
  • The Date column in PDF exports and in CSV files.

Good to know

Tip: If you send exports to someone in another country, match their convention rather than yours. An accountant in the US expects month first, one in Europe expects day first.

Existing expenses are shown in the new format immediately. Nothing is re-entered or changed underneath.

All of this lives in Account Setup

Profile, currency, date format, and tracking defaults are set once and apply everywhere. The use-case guide shows the best defaults for each profile.
